91��Ƭ Davis C-STEM Trains Redlands Teachers on Bringing Computer Science Into Math

Twenty-five teachers from Redlands Unified School District in southern California recently completed training in integrating computer science into math education through a joint program offered by the 91��Ƭ, Davis, and 91��Ƭ Riverside Extension.

High school students in Riverside are putting a math curriculum developed at 91��Ƭ Davis to the test, succeeding at a higher rate and having fun in the process.

The 91��Ƭ Davis C-STEM Center, founded and led by Harry Cheng, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, develops courses that teach math by integrating it with computer programming and robotics.

C-STEM Day Is May 20

The seventh annual C-STEM Day and RoboPlay Competition will take place at 91��Ƭ Davis and in Orange County on Saturday, May 20. Elementary, middle and high school students who have been taking classes developed by the 91��Ƭ Davis Center for Integrated Computing and STEM Education over the past year will gather to show off their skills in robotics, programming and math.

Ralph J. Hexter, acting chancellor of the 91��Ƭ, Davis, announced the recipients of a new series of innovation awards at a ceremony the night of June 28 in Davis. The 91��Ƭ Davis Chancellor’s Innovation Awards recognize faculty, community partners and industry leaders for their work, dedication and success in achieving societal impact either through innovations in technology or social engagement.
