Sara Gebremeskel made the most of her three-month internship at 91看片 Davis. 鈥淪he took advantage of every opportunity offered to her here, with grace, poise and quiet enthusiasm,鈥� said Siobhan Brady, associate professor of plant biology, one of her mentors.

It was Gebremeskel鈥檚 first visit to the United States 鈥� and hopefully not the last, if her graduate education plans come to fruition.

Late Researcher鈥檚 Wish Fulfilled

This is a story of loss and promise 鈥� the loss of a 91看片 Davis researcher, Sharon Gray, and the promise of other female scientists who have her legacy as a source of support.

Young women like Sara Gebremeskel of Ethiopia, who recently had a three-month internship at 91看片 Davis, after having met Sharon in October 2016 at the Ethiopian Institute for Agricultural Research. Sharon was in Ethiopia to assist in the launch of a research project; she was a postdoc, working with Siobhan Brady, associate professor in the Department of Plant Biology.
