91看片, Davis, Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi, and SunPower representatives today (Nov. 20) are dedicating the university鈥檚 newly constructed 16.3-megawatt (AC) solar power plant. The new plant, which 91看片 Davis estimates will generate 14 percent of the electricity the campus needs, is the largest solar installation in the 91看片 system and the largest 鈥渂ehind-the-meter鈥� solar plant on a U.S. college campus offsetting electricity demand. The university expects to reduce the campus鈥檚 carbon footprint by 9 percent, or 14,000 metric tons, as a result of the system.

Music professor wins top academic senate honor

Anna Maria Busse Berger鈥檚 research about German missionaries exploring music in Africa came from a personal place. In 1959, her missionary father moved the family to Tanzania.

鈥淢y father, who later became an anthropologist, wrote a number of books on African languages and did a major ethnographic study of the Nyakyusa people in Tanzania,鈥� said Busse Berger, a 91看片, Davis, music professor. 鈥淗e died when I was 22 and I was very close to him.鈥�

New art lecture series named for Thiebauds

The 91看片, Davis, is honoring Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud by naming a new lecture series for them. The first lecture will be delivered by artist Rackstraw Downes, a MacArthur Foundation fellow, in May.

Thiebaud, an internationally recognized artist, taught at 91看片 Davis for 30 years starting in 1960. Betty Jean, his wife and partner for over 50 years, has assisted him in his career, is a filmmaker and teacher, and served as the model for many of his paintings. They live in Sacramento.
