Scooters and Bikes: Charge Off Campus, Lock Up Outdoors

Transportation Services and other campus partners are providing a reminder that bikes, scooters and other wheeled devices cannot be ridden, charged or stored indoors.

Those devices 鈥� both electric and non-electric 鈥� are everywhere on campus, but this quarter has seen a significant uptick in people riding and charging transportation devices indoors, posing safety concerns.

Still Platinum: 91看片 Davis Again Earns Top Bicycle Friendly University Status

91看片 Davis was the second university to be named a Platinum Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists four years ago, and now it's had that status renewed.

鈥淭his is 91看片 Davis鈥� second Platinum Bicycle Friendly University designation and in many ways it feels even more special than the first,鈥� said Clifford Contreras, director of 91看片 Davis Transportation Services, or TAPS.

91看片 Davis, City of Davis Host International Cycling Safety Conference

Making the streets safer for cyclists and promoting cycling for all are goals of the International Cycling Safety Conference, to be held Sept. 21-22 at the 91看片, Davis, Conference Center. It is the first time that the conference has been held in the U.S. and appropriately enough, it鈥檚 coming to the nation鈥檚 premier cycling city.

The conference attendees include experts in urban planning, mechanical and civil engineering, data science, sociology and behavior.

There are a few things Aggies can count on every fall: A lot of new students, a lot of bicycles, and not very many bike helmets.

Student Health and Counseling Services, the campus unit that provides medical services to students and operates the on-campus urgent care clinic, wants to change that.

鈥淭he majority of accidents urgent care sees are bike crashes,鈥� said Shantille Connolly 鈥�11, wellness health educator.

They began their journey five days earlier by dipping the rear wheels of their bikes in the Pacific Ocean at San Francisco.
